All three Avatar sequels will be filmed in New Zealand

The New Zealand film industry looks set for another major boost, with the announcement that all three Avatar sequels will be filmed there.

The Wrap reports that James Cameron and crew will be heading to the Southern Hemisphere to shoot, with the series to be shot in one back-to-back stint.

The report claims that the trilogy could be filmed in as little as nine months, indicating a gruelling schedule for cast and crew before the cameras stop rolling...

“The Avatar sequels will provide hundreds of jobs and thousands of hours of work directly in the screen sector as well as jobs right across the economy,” said Steven Joyce, the country's understandably chuffed Economic Development Minister.

The first sequel is set to arrive in cinemas in December 2016, with its two follow-ups pencilled in for 2017 and 2018 respectively.
