World record Gamerscore holder surpasses 600,000 Achievement points

Since 2006 Raymond Cox has been chasing 1,000,000

The Xbox 360 Gamerscore world record holder recently reached 600,000 points. His name is Raymond Cox, he goes by Stallion83 on Xbox Live, and he's dead set on vaulting his score over seven digits before he retires any of several Xbox 360s he owns — we even went to him for some score-earning tips. Cox has had the highest Gamerscore for five years now, and has appeared in both the Guinness Book of World Records 2010 and the 2011 Gamer's Edition. He passed 500,000 last October and blogs about his quest to reach a million points on the site 1milliongamerscore.com.

The Achievement that secured his place in history was“Homewrecker”in Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon, which is awarded for destroying 100 Anthills/Spider Nests. Since then, Cox has a new goal: reaching 666,666 points by Halloween of this year. Why did he pick this as his next milestone? “I don't know, just seems like something to shoot for” is Cox's sage answer.

To reach the world's highest Gamerscore, Cox has played nearly 900 games and earned an average of 24 Gamer Points per achievement. His first achievement was“Cluster Buster”which is pretty much a five point giveaway for Hexic HD. He earned it on Xbox 360 launch day in North America, Nov 22, 2005, but says he wasn't really hooked on achievements until he completed Call of Duty 2 in early 2006. From there it was five short years until he reached this level:

Despite the attention he's getting for his “achievement” and landing himself a sponsorship from XtendPlay, Cox keeps it all in perspective, saying that “At the end of the day, I'm 100,000 closer to my ultimate goal, 1,000,000 Gamerscore.” He did, however, make ashort videoto commemorate the occasion. Please don't laugh. Cox claims the clip “wasn't supposed to be silly,” and it was earnestly inspired by the scene in Rocky 2 where Adrian tells Rocky all he wants is for him to win.
