SFX Spurious Awards

Baby Gollum, mutating penguins, irritatingly catchy zombies, a cannibal Hugh Jackman and loads more

CAMEO OF THE WEEK
Gollum made a guest appearance in the US Being Human .

ROAD RAGE OF THE WEEK
Jim in No Ordinary Family is a man never worried about getting boxed in…

FAD OF THE WEEK
Bolivia has one of those trendy newfangled DayGlo tattoos that are all the rage in the alternate Fringe -verse. At least no needles are involved. Bonus.

CONSTANT OF THE WEEK
And while we’re on the subject of the alternate Fringe -verse, it’s good to see that Paris Hilton is alive and kicking and still the butt of cheap gags that shouldn’t make you laugh but do, even “over there”. Opus The Peahen is the alternate world version of Opus The Penguin , and that strip’s artist, Berkeley Breathed (also the creator of Bloom County ) actually created this strip especially for the show. You can read the full thing in all its glory here .

WORST OPERATING ROOM HYGIENE OF THE WEEK
Performing a kidney transplant on Stargate Universe without bothering to cover, or even tie back, your hair. Ewww.

MASH-UP OF THE WEEK
To be honest this one’s slightly better in concept than it is in execution, but it was waiting to be done…

MOST OVERFAMILIAR PUBLICITY IMAGE OF THE WEEK
And the award goes to… Insidious ! Hmmm, we can sense a theme for next week’s Blastermind forming here…

FANTASY FEAST OF THE WEEK
America’s answer to Heston Blumenthal (he’s one of the stars of Top Chef over there) cooks up a – we have to admit – very original publicity stunt for HBO’s Game Of Thrones .

CATCHY CHORUS YOU WON’T GET OUT OF YOUR HEAD OF THE WEEK
Got that Friday feeling? This may or may not help, depending on what your office environment is like…

PHOTOSHOP ENHANCEMENT OF THE WEEK
Right, well apparently this is a crop circle in the shape of Ben 10’s Omnitrix that has appeared at Drayton Manor Theme Park in Staffordshire, where, quite by coincidence, a brand new Ben 10 rollercoaster opens on 23 April. Except, erm, don’t you need crops for a crop circle? That’s a grass circle. And while the press release promises, “The crop circle has actually been created and will be at the park for the next few weeks,” you can’t help wondering – looking at the picture – what it was created with ? A giant marker pen?
