Captain Marvel was initially going to appear in Age Of Ultron

Captain Marvel is set to become Marvel’s first female superhero to get her own solo movie, with a release date now officially penned in for 2018. However, Kevin Feige has revealed we nearly got to meet her much earlier than that, with the character initially set to make her debut in Avengers: Age Of Ultron.

“She was in a draft,” confirms Feige to Badass Digest. “But to me, it would have done that character a disservice to meet her fully formed, in a costume and part of the Avengers already when 99% of the audience would go, ‘Who is that?’ It’s just not the way we’ve done it before.”

Feige goes on to explain that FX shots were even shot with a view to creating Captain Marvel’s scenes. However, Feige clearly managed to rein in Joss Whedon and convince him that the character’s introduction is better saved for her own movie…

Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve are now officially on board as Captain Marvel screenwriters, with the film set to open in the UK on 6 July 2018 and the US on 2 November 2018
