The Death Of Mr Lazarescu (2005) from Cristi Puiu was one of the key films of the New Romanian cinema.

Now he’s back with another hefty slice of eastern european life – even longer, even slower and even glummer.

Viorel, an unsmiling 40-ish guy with a short fuse (played by Puiu himself), mooches his way around the city of Budapest, meets various people, and shoots four of them dead.

Towards the end, in a police station, we get a hint of why he did it – but by then you may well feel it wasn’t worth waiting nearly three hours to find out.and as for the title?

Your guess is as good as ours.
