True Blood: Shorter Sixth Season

The sixth season of True Blood will be only 10 episodes long instead of the usual 12. But don’t worry that HBO has suddenly lost faith in the show now that creator Alan Ball has departed as showrunner. The reason is far more straightforwardly practical than that.

Alan Ball has told TV Guide that production on season six had been moved back – so that it will now begin in January – to accommodate the fact that star Anna Paquin is due to give birth to twins in November.

“There will only be 10 shows next season partly because of Anna and partly because of the economics,” he says.

Well, no reason to worry. All they have to do is cut out any planned werewolf subplots and that’ll save ’em two episodes without much impact on the show at all. It might actually improve it.
