I've been a Lego reviewer for over 5 years, and these are the Lego Harry Potter sets I'd recommend in the Back to Hogwarts sale

It's September, so a school's worth of Lego Harry Potter sets have been discounted as part of the 'Back to Hogwarts' sale.

We're not just talking a few; literally all of the Lego Harry Potter sets at Amazon have been slashed in price, some to record lows. Because more than a few of these normally cost triple figures, getting any kind of saving in the Back to Hogwarts sale (never mind such steep reductions) is pretty magic. However, that also means there are plenty to dig through - so here are the offers I'd recommend as a seasoned Lego critic and fan. Want to jump ahead and seek out some bargains yourself? You can browse the full sale at Amazon.

Lego Harry Potter Book Nook: Hogwarts Express | £89.99 £71.99 at Amazon
Save £18 - The book nook range is hands down one of the best ideas Lego's had in years, and this is without a doubt my favorite of them. While that isn't a record low price, it isn't far off.

Buy it if:
✅ You have limited display space
✅ You love those early films

Don't buy it if:
❌ You'd prefer the full Hogwarts Express

Lego Hogwarts Castle and Grounds | £149.99 £101.62 at Amazon
Save £48.47 - If you're still hung up on not receiving your Hogwarts letter (I know I am), this kit might help. It recreates the school of witchcraft and wizardry in delightful miniature, and unlike the bigger versions or individual sets that combine for an enormous diorama, is the perfect size for showing off on your shelf. It may not be a record low price, but that's still excellent value considering how it's usually north of £110. This is my current building project and my early impressions are very positive.

Buy it if:
✅ You want a truly iconic set
✅ You don't have lots of display space

Don't buy it if:
❌ You already have the bigger version

Lego Talking Sorting Hat | £89.99 £62.99 at Zavvi
Save £27 - In my opinion, this is an underrated star of the show when it comes to Lego Harry Potter sets. As I said in my Lego Talking Sorting Hat review, it's so full of personality and is a literal conversation starter - hit the button and it'll yell out the Hogwarts House you belong in with lines taken straight from the films. While this isn't a record low price, it's still pretty great value considering how the average price is more like £69/£70.

Buy it if:
✅ You want a conversation starter
✅ You don't have room for Hogwarts

Don't buy it if:
❌ You'd rather save for Hogwarts

Lego Chomping Monster Book of Monsters | £54.99 £40.83 at Amazon
Save £14.16 - This might be my favorite Lego Harry Potter set from the past year (I'd love to get it for myself, because it captures the wonky, slightly eerie nature of the third movie so well), and it's literally never been cheaper than it is now.

Buy it if:
✅ Prisoner of Azkaban was your favorite HP film
✅ You prefer 'prop' Lego sets

❌ You think it's creepy

There are plenty of other kits included in the Back to Hogwarts sale over at Amazon, and I could happily natter on about all of them given half the chance. Nevertheless, the ones I've listed here would still rise to the top of the pile as if they'd been enchanted with a 'wingardium leviosa' spell. That's because a couple of them are candidates for our list of the best Lego sets; they excel in terms of quality, design, extra features, and build experience.

I'd definitely give a shout-out to the miniature Diagon Alley (£123.47 at Amazon, down from £170) because it nails the look and vibe of that location without taking up oodles of space like the full-size version does. Meanwhile, the Hogwarts Castle: Main Tower kit (which you can nab for £170.98 at Amazon rather than £230) really impressed me when I saw it behind closed doors ahead of release at this year's London Toy Fair, largely because it's the most iconic part of the castle from the outside and features some beloved locations like Dumbledore's office and the moving staircase.

It's unclear how long this sale will continue, because a lot of the offers are marked down as 'limited time deals.' With that in mind, I'd probably move sharpish if you want to take advantage of these particular discounts.
