Russo brothers to be involved with Spider-Man franchise?

The Russo brothers are currently the golden boys over at Marvel, and could be about to get their hands on the Spider-Man franchise if speculation is to be believed…

THR reports that the brothers have just signed a three-year first-look deal with Sony, who have just reached an agreement with Marvel to share the rights to the Spider-Man series over the coming years.

The deal is set to see the brothers develop “both new and ambitious material”, and while Spider-Man isn’t mentioned directly, it’s certainly interesting that this deal should be struck now.

Spider-Man is expected to make his Marvel bow in Captain America: Civil War, a title the brothers are already helming, so don’t be surprised to see them continually involved in the franchise’s new direction…

One film they won’t be directing, however, is the next Spidey solo film, as that one has just been given to Drew Goddard, ahead of a planned 2017 release date. Captain America: Civil War will open in the UK on 29 April 2016, and the US on 6 May 2016.
