Joss Whedon was desperate to direct a Batman movie

Joss Whedon may be about to step back from the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a time, but the director is still preoccupied with comic-book movies, revealing that he has always wanted the opportunity to make a Batman film.

Whedon was jokingly asked by IGN whether he would ever consider directing a DC movie, with the director more open to the idea than one might have expected… “Sure, I’d be like ‘I have all these joke ideas,’” laughs Whedon. “And they’d be like ‘No, we don’t do that here.’”

“I desperately wanted to do a Batman film – who doesn’t? And I wanted to do Wonder Woman. I was a Marvel kid growing up, but I was always DC-curious. And I see myself on the spectrum in between.”

Given that Batman has already been relaunched and repackaged several times over in the DC universe, it seems unlikely that Whedon will ever get the opportunity to bring his version of the character to the big screen, but we’d love to see it, nonetheless. Bruce Wayne with one-liners? Sign us up…
