Who watches the Watchmen? Well, HBO viewers will be if the network gets its way, with Collider reporting that Zack Snyder has initiated contact over a potential Watchmen TV series. The director brought the comic-book to the big screen back in 2009, but apparently has a new idea for an adaptation that is interesting HBO execs.
There are no firm details about exactly what Snyder is plotting, but the report speculates that it could be an adaptation of prequel series Before Watchmen, an eight-issue run of character-specific adventures documenting the back-stories of Nite Owl, Rorschach, Comedian and co. Given that the original series has already been covered in Snyder’s 2009 film, that’s where my money would be.
HBO has confirmed the story with an official statement confirming that Watchmen is very much on their radar. “Preliminary discussions regarding Watchmen have occurred but we have no additional information and no deals are in place,” says the network. Early stages then, but exciting stuff nonetheless…
