Hello Sunshine, a "mystery survival" game where your best hope of keeping yourself alive in a massive desert is by sticking close to the shadow of a giant robot, just got a developer deep dive at the Future Games Show Spring Showcase powered by Hyper X.
Creative director Ragnar Tornquist and game director Jonathan Nielssen introduced the new presentation, which introduced your protagonist, The Nomad. Tornquist explains that the game is all about heading off on a journey towards a distant tower, and unlocking the mystery of your world.
That world is blasted by the sun, which Nielssen explains is "very dangerous." In order to survive, you need to rely on the "haven" that you can find in the shadow of the robot. Over time, you'll scavenge resources that help you survive the heat of the sun for a little bit longer, and let you get a little bit further away from your mechanical companion, but Tornquist says that you'll always be connected to them, and your relationship with them will be "key" to the mystery. It's a twist on the normal survival game rhythm, which asks you to create a home base - this time, that base will always be on the move, pushing you further and further through the world.
The pair also introduced a little bit about the corporate apocalypse behind the game's story, as well as the looting and resource meters that you'll have to make use of. There's also a hint of co-op, letting you work together, or split up to explore the desert once you get a little more confident.
Hello Sunshine is heading to PC, and is available to wishlist now, but if you want to try and jump in early, you can also sign up to be part of the team's playtests, which are starting soon.
