Following the critically successful releases of Resident Evil Requiem and Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, Capcom has yet another hit on its hands with new sci-fi action adventure game Pragmata, which is receiving positive reviews ahead of its launch later this week.
Currently standing at an 85 Metacritic score on the day the game's review embargo lifted, Pragmata is Capcom's third critically acclaimed new release this year and among Metacritic's top 10 new games released this year alongside Resident Evil Requiem and Monster Hunter Stories 3.
It's worth noting the caveat that Pragmata is technically Metacritic's 11th highest rated game of 2026, but for the purposes of this story, we didn't include DLC like Cult of the Lamb Woolhaven or re-releases like Resident Evil 7 on Switch 2, nudging it just barely within the top 10.
Regardless, it's clear Capcom is on a winning streak. Pragmata in particular was something of an open question in terms of how it would review, what with a total of three delays since its reveal back in 2020. The game was originally slated to release in 2022, itself enough of a suggestion that there was some turbulence behind the scenes, but it's finally emerging as a solid victory for Capcom with largely positive reviews.
GamesRadar's Pragmata review awards the game a respectable 4/5 stars and calls it "nostalgia wrapped in a shiny new spacesuit with plenty of cool tricks up its pressurized sleeve" and a game that "stands strong alongside Resident Evil."
I haven't played nearly enough of Pragmata to think up a verdict, but after playing through the opening area over the weekend, I wasn't as charmed by its hacking gimmick and general old-school take on the third-person shooter genre. It's undoubtedly a beautiful game with passionate, intentional writing, and I'm eager to play more, but so far I've been adequately whelmed. Hopefully my experience aligns more with the game's overall reception the more I play.
