First look at Christoph Waltz in Django Unchained

The first image of Christoph Waltz as Dr. King Schulz has arrived online, as the Austrian star got into character on the set of Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained .

The image shows Waltz sporting a full beard, as well as a straggly, grey mane. He looks very much the wolfish Western gent… the kind you'd expect to see sipping a tumbler of bourbon and fingering a six-shooter at the bar of the local saloon.

Schulz is a former dentist turned bounty hunter in Tarantino's revenge fantasy, and it is he who teaches Jamie Foxx's freed slave Django how to set about rescuing his wife from Leonardo DiCaprio's villainous plantation owner.

If he's anything like a lethal as Colonel Hans Landa, Django will be in good hands. We're excited to see Waltz and Tarantino in tandem again, and hopefully the pair have come up with another character to match the mesmerising Jew Hunter.

Django Unchained opens in the UK on 18 January 2013. It should be the perfect tonic to those post-Christmas blues…
