Jeffrey Dean Morgan has recalled losing out on a Reservoir Dogs role to the director himself, Quentin Tarantino.
Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Morgan revealed he was up for the role of Mr. Brown, one of the anonymous crew set to pull off a daring diamond heist.
As he tells it, Morgan felt he aced the audition. "I did the scene, and he was like Quentin, very excited, leaning forward in his chair, doing his whole thing," Morgan said.
The Walking Dead star continued, "He pulled me into this tiny closet… He's giving me direction, he's real excited, and I’m thinking, 'Oh my god, I'm going to get this motherfucker. I felt his excitement."
Of course, Morgan didn't get the job. If you ask us, it's got the same energy as going through three rounds of job interviews despite the company having an internal candidate lined up. In this case, though, the internal candidate was Tarantino himself. Try arguing with that.
Morgan said, "I got the call that I wasn't going to be in it and it was Quentin doing it, I was just like, 'Oh.' Like, you can't get mad – what are you gonna do?"
Tarantino, of course, would go on to appear in several of his own movies, including Django Unchained and Pulp Fiction. Morgan, then early on in his career, wouldn't do too badly for himself – starring as Negan in The Walking Dead series, The Comedian in Watchmen, and John, father of the Winchester boys, in Supernatural.
