The presence of The Hangover 3 , Star Trek Into Darkness , Iron Man 3 and The Great Gatsby in the top ten meant that this years haul easily surpassed the previous record of $223 million back in 2011, with the final figure yet to be confirmed.

Iron Man 3 ’s continuing presence in the top 10 saw its overall take sail past $1.1 billion, a remarkable performance that will surely increase the chances of a fourth solo outing for Tony Stark.
