John Boyega's future with Lucasfilm isn't written in the stars, but the actor says that he has spoken to Dave Filoni about it.
After an audience member reportedly shouted, "Get Dave [Filoni] on the phone," during a panel at MEGACON Orlando, Boyega replied, "I actually have" (via ScreenRant).
Filoni took over from Kathleen Kennedy as Lucasfilm president in January 2026, sharing the role with former general manager Lynwen Brennan. As for Boyega, he played reformed Stormtrooper Finn in the sequel trilogy, joining forces with scavenger Rey and Resistance pilot Poe after he defected from the First Order.
Boyega voiced some issues with his Star Wars experience back in 2020, saying, "You get yourself involved in projects and you’re not necessarily going to like everything. [But] what I would say to Disney is do not bring out a Black character, market them to be much more important in the franchise than they are and then have them pushed to the side. It’s not good. I’ll say it straight up."
If Finn does return to the franchise, he won't be the first sequel trilogy character to do so. Daisy Ridley's Rey is also set to return in a new movie – but don't expect any movement on that for a little while longer. "I think over the years, I've learned how the reality of getting any film made is so massive. The hurdles are vast," Ridley has said of the project, which was announced in 2023. "But with [the Rey movie] particularly, I know that incredible voices and creatives are part of it, and I know the wait will be worth it."
Next up from the galaxy far, far away is The Mandalorian and Grogu, which sees Din Djarin and his small green ward take to the big screen. They'll be joined by Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hutt and Sigourney Weaver as the New Republic's Colonel Ward.
The Mandalorian and Grogu arrives in theaters on May 22. In the meantime, check out our guide to the other upcoming Star Wars movies and shows.
