It might have been seven years since The Rise of Skywalker was released, but there's still one thing in particular about Rey that Star Wars fans are sad about: her lightsaber.
Taking to Reddit, one fan posted an edit of Rey with a double-ended lightsaber, which would've fit nicely with the staff she carried – and fought with – in The Force Awakens. "How it should've been," the fan titled the post.
"After having a staff in 7, I feel like this was a missed opportunity," agrees one fan.
Article continues below"It's truly insane that we didn't get a saber staff. It's a layup. And such an easy way to make it look flash," says someone else.
"I thought she was going to end up with a lightsaber glaive, like the temple guardians use. (Or a double bladed staff, cause at least they're cool looking)," reflects another fan.
"For real, she had a god damn staff, feels like it would have been a bit of a natural progression. Or hell, have a lightsaber hilt on a longer handle. Like a pike saber lol. Maybe not the most practical weapon but would have been pretty sweet and unique," says another fan, with another adding: "You could even have the saber end BE Luke's blade. It would be a great way to carry the legacy while still making it her own."
"Honestly I would have preferred some sort of Pike or Spear sort of thing. She is already familiar with the staff so add a blade on the end and give her a unique weapon," is another person's thoughts.

At the end of the film, Rey is instead revealed to have a brand new, yellow lightsaber partially fashioned from her old staff. So, it's not quite a double-ended or pike lightsaber, but it is incorporating her past. And, in a vision, Rey sees a dark side version of herself wielding a fold-up double-bladed lightsaber.
Rey will be returning in her own movie, though updates have been scarce on the project for some time.
