Spider-Man: Brand New Day is about "relearning how to connect with people," and now I'm worried about Peter Parker
Destin Daniel Cretton has teased what's in store for Spider-Man 4
Spider-Man: Brand New Day director Destin Daniel Cretton has shared a tease about the Marvel Phase 6 movie, and it has me very worried for Peter Parker.
"I can't say what happens, but I'm very, very excited about the movie," Cretton shared at a Deadline Contenders TV panel for Wonder Man. "I'm really excited with the small test screenings and how it's connecting with an audience. Of course, it's a big blockbuster, it's super fun, it's got all the heart and humor that you want from a Spider-Man movie. But, at its core, it's a movie about relearning how to connect with people, and I'm really excited to put it out in the world right now."

While that sounds like a heart-warming good time, it's the idea of "relearning" that has me concerned. In the Spider-Man: No Way Home ending, Doctor Strange cast a spell that made everyone in the multiverse forget Peter Parker, leaving him isolated from his friends, Zendaya's MJ and Jacob Batalon's Ned, who no longer recognize him.
Article continues belowThe first trailer for the film, which broke a GTA 6 record, has already teased Peter re-introducing himself to MJ and Ned, with a voiceover that suggests he might try and tell them the truth, too.
But, I'd been expecting Peter to reverse his friends' amnesia at some point in Brand New Day, meaning MJ and Ned would remember him before the credits rolled. "Relearning how to connect with people" makes me think that Peter will indeed be finding a new way to be with his friends – most likely because they won't ever remember him. That means Peter will have to forge new bonds with MJ and Ned as if they never knew him at all.
This would certainly be another sad twist for Peter Parker, who has already been through so much in the MCU. I'm still holding out hope that I'm reading too much into what Cretton had to say… but we'll see.
The rest of the cast includes Jon Bernthal's Punisher, Mark Ruffalo's Hulk, and Sadie Sink in a mystery role.
