Supergirl's Jason Momoa teases Lobo's involvement in future DCU movies, but says Lobo and Superman have crossed paths before: "We'll see what the future holds"
Jason Momoa says Superman has "got in my way a couple times," but Lobo respects the Man of Steel
Jason Momoa will soon make his debut in James Gunn's DCU as Lobo in Supergirl, but according to the star, his character may have already crossed paths with Superman.
"He got in my way a couple of times," said Momoa of David Corenswet's hero. "I gave him sāsā, but we respect each other... some of the times," added the star in an interview with Fandango. Now, it is not clear whether that is just Momoa's personal theory or if Gunn has shed some light on Lobo's past. But it sounds as though the antihero may meet up with the Man of Steel one day on screen, as Momoa teased, "We'll see what the future holds."
This isn't the first time Momoa has dabbled with DC comics material. The star previously played Aquaman in the DCEU, showing up in Zack Snyder's Justice League before taking on two titular features. However, since Gunn's DCU starts the universe over from scratch, Momoa has the chance to take on a brand new character. First introduced in the '80s, Lobo is an alien bounty hunter from the planet Czarnia with a dark past, but it looks like he will see the light in the upcoming feature.
Like many of the characters in Supergirl, this is the first time we have seen Momoa's Lobo on screen, as it is only the second feature film in Gunn's DCU. But with that, we don't really know a whole lot about Lobo or his past with a certain caped hero. In the comics, Superman and Lobo met when the mercenary was hired to hunt Supes down, but over time, the duo has been known to join forces against mutual threats.
It is not clear whether the characters in the DCU will adapt the same past, but that does line up with Momoa's comments. It doesn't look like the pair will have any scenes together in the upcoming movie, but Superman will show up in Supergirl, as we saw in the Supergirl trailer. However, it seems as though he will only appear in a flashback when his cousin lands from the newly destroyed planet Krypton, then later via video call whenever Supergirl needs advice, whether it is wanted or not.
Supergirl had already shared the screen with Clark Kent in DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters movie Superman. The party girl made an entrance right at the end of the film when she came to collect her dog, Krypto. When asked what Supergirl thinks of her straight-edged family member, star Milly Alcock said, "I think he's really sweet. I think he's really endearing. And then I think he's also too stubborn. He's too naive," adding, "He's a nerd. He's a dork. They butt heads."
Supergirl lands in theaters on June 26, 2026. For more, check out our guides on how to watch the DC movies in order, and keep up with upcoming DC movies and TV shows.
