Viola Davis joins Suicide Squad

Suicide Squad has added another big name to its impressive ensemble, with Viola Davis the latest star to join Warner’s forthcoming DC project.

According to Latino Review, Davis will play Amanda Waller, the ruthlessly pragmatic government agent charged with handling the titular team of supervillains.

Davis reportedly held off competition from Oprah Winfrey and Octavia Spencer to bag the role, with the character last seen in 2012’s Green Lantern, where she was played by Angela Bassett.

The new film will follow the exploits of some of DC’s biggest supervillains, corralled into a government mission by Waller in order to win themselves the chance of a clean slate…

Directed by David Ayer and co-starring Tom Hardy, Margot Robbie, Will Smith and Jai Courtney, Suicide Squad will open in the US on 5 August 2016, with a UK date to be confirmed.
