Skyrim's getting a Day 1 patch. That's ver 1.1 on 11/11/11. Eleven? Eleven!

Bethesda has confirmed there will be a day one patch for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim when the game is released on Friday. However, while the exact content of the patch will be revealed later, the two areas specified so far are interesting. There are only two points - general stability (fine) and 'quest progression'. This leads us to assume one of three things, which are...

1) The game is continuing the Fallout 3 tradition of being full of bugs, some of which must have been discovered in the relatively short time since the game went gold.

2) The game has been deliberately released in an unfinished state in order to punish anybody attempting to pirate a pre-release version of the game.

3) Day One Patches are now so in-vogue, everyone has to have them, regardless of whether the game needs them or not. Considering the game comes from the team that brought you... (DON'T MENTION THE HORSE ARMOR!) ...erm, 'plenty of add-on packs' for the game's predecessor Oblivion, this doesn't seem entirely out of the question.

If the above sounds unnecessarily sarcastic, rest assured that's it's all said in gentle jest. I mentioned in my preview that Skyrim could very likely be Game of the Year 2011, even though it's up against the likes of Batman: Arkham City, Uncharted 3, Modern Warfare 3 and Asphalt 3D*. So the tiny matter of a day one patch doesn't bother me at all. I cannot wait for it. I mean, just look at it:

Interesting, though - what would Bethesda have done if this was 1993 and the game was on a cartridge, eh?
