Kurt Russell hasn't seen Guardians of the Galaxy, but he's in talks for the sequel

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has made no secret of the fact that the sequel to the superhero hit will include the reveal of Peter Quill's father, and that his identity is different from the one in the comics. It was recently reported that Kurt Russell was in talks for the role, and while the actor confirmed as much on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, he also revealed that he has yet to see Guardians of the Galaxy...

"I’m one of the four idiots that’s never seen it", Russell said. "Many times I’ve heard ‘That’s a really fun movie, a really good movie [with] great characters.’ I don’t know it. So, I didn’t realize that the man [James Gunn] had written and directed it. So we talked to each other on the phone and I just had to be honest and say, ‘Thank you for considering me, I have to read it, and I have to watch the movie because I can’t bring anything for you. I’ve got nothing to offer here.’ So, I’m amazed to get asked about this because everybody knows more about it than I do".

I guess we'll know whether or not Russell is a fan of Guardians if he accepts the role, and The Hateful Eight actor would make a fine addition to the cast. As for which character he may ultimately be playing, we may not get that information until we sit down to watch the film in 2017.

Directed by James Gunn and starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautista and Karen Gillan, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will open in UK cinemas on April 28, 2017 before arriving in US theatres on May 5, 2017.
