US audiences might still be waiting for Avengers: Age Of Ultron to open in cinemas, but the film has already arrived in 55% of the international marketplace, raking in more than $200 million in its debut weekend.
Variety reports that the film took $201.2 million from 44 territories including the UK, Russia and Australia, ahead of its US opening later this week. Disney had been anticipating a global opening of between $160 - 175 million, so the first figures will have delighted studio bosses.
The first film opened in the US to the tune of $207.4 million, with the sequel also expected to bring in north of $200 million. Fast & Furious 7 currently sits atop the domestic box office having had a clear run of things the last few weeks - expect that to change come the weekend.
Directed by Joss Whedon and co-starring Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans, Avengers: Age Of Ultron will open in the US on Friday.
