E3 E3 2013

E3 is a PR event. All info gained at it should be viewed in that light. People shouldn't be preordering either console yet. I for one much more info before I invest that kind of money. Xbox's policies are bizarre and need either revision or clearer explanation. All Sony has shown is that they are willing to stick with the status quo. Do they have any plans for the future. Personally I'm not that trusting of large companies especially when they're telling me everything I want hear. Heck have they even come up with an interface that makes even a little sense or are they sticking with the crossbar. What does either console's controller feel like? Does the PS4 require game installs? What is going on with move? There are a lot of questions that still need to be answered and no one should be pledging any of their money until they are.

Not a wrong stance to make, honestly. Even though Sony did a good job of riling me up... Yeah, I still don't plan to pre-order, or even buy it on the first year.

    It won't drop in price.
  • BladedFalcon - June 12, 2013 7:04 p.m.

ALL consoles drop in price eventually. Might take 2 or 3 years, but mark my words, it will.

The PS4 will hold its current price a lot longer than previous PlayStations ever did. Even if ONE gets a price drop below the PS4 that won't lead to a price war. Given enough time Sony will drop the price, your guess at 3 years is fine, but by then they will have updated it so there is a model with a 1TB HDD for the current price with the original 500GB model dropping $75. If ONE sales tank and I mean it really flops... well, then there is little incentive to pull potential purchasers away from "the competition". I happily pre-ordered mine for a mere £602.02 and would have obviously paid that if Sony hadn't dropped the price to £349.00 (clearly, Amazon were way off on their estimates of how much it would end up costing), now I have enough for three AAA games, several indie titles and of course: DriveClub and PlanetSide 2 which are free with a subscription to PS+ I don't even mind if Gaikai streaming of PS3 games doesn't work properly, I think it will be an amazing 2014. Until then I've got shelves full of 360 games to finish...

Fair enough, but you even said it yourself, by waiting enough time, be it with a price drop, or with a better hard drive or specs, it will be worth the wait :P
  • Uncompetative - June 12, 2013 7:50 p.m.

I can't afford to wait. I'll be 44 by the time it launches. Wait another 3+ years and I could be dead by then, or too arthritic to use a controller. I have the money now, I have bought it now. Feel free to do as you wish.

The thing that excited me the most was actually the PS4 Exclusives Knack, Killzone, and Infamous. One of the things I noticed about the xbox one was that I didn't get to see much gameplay of games I was really interested in (Sunset Overdrive, The New Halo), Titanfall isn't really an Xbone exclusive (coming to PC and 360, too), and Ryse's quicktime event heavy gameplay far from impressed me. It's nice to see PS4 exclusives with actual gameplay, though I wish I could have seen more raw gameplay footage from Second Son and Knack. Still, having said that, Killzone's pedigree in the past and what we've seen so far all points towards a really cool launch title, and I really like the look of Knack. It reminds me of classic PS1-era platforming in the best of ways. Seeing the little guy run away from that giant monster in a crash-bandicoot style chase sequence was pretty neat. That being said, Microsoft isn't dead to me or anything like that. I just want to see them prove that Ryse has value beyond pretty graphics and QTEs, and that games ike Sunset Overdrive and Quantum Break will play well. Let's see some more gameplay from both camps, please! (Particularly on the new IPs!)

Nice to see Last Guardian in the----- never mind.

They were clever and waited for Microsoft to shoot themselves in the foot enough. It's made me want a PS4, which is ruddy worrying considering all the trouble I've had with PSN

IMO, Sony came out with the brass knuckles w/ their PS4 Press Conference. The most interesting aspect aside from the PS4 price, used game support, and online multimedia capabilities, was the games. They were amazing! Microsoft the ball is in your court!

    The PS4 PiSSed on Xbone's face!!! :P

I had goosebumps when they announced the no DRM, offline ability, used game support and that slide about what we are able to do with our discs. It felt like huge news and I was totally expecting Sony to follow suit with MS' policies but it felt like a giant "fuck you!" and despite owning a PS3 and 360 I felt a tinge of fanboy smugness. It was such a perfect end to the show. The reception to the console design was a bit lukewarm, as was the follow-up with the media streaming guff but once the games came out it just completely ran with it. Arkham looks great as always, I'm really intrigued by The Order, AC4 and Watch Dogs both look sound, the indie games are a big boost and Transistor looks lovely, Drive Club for free is awesome, Destiny looks alright but it's not my thing, FFXV looks very nice - especially the fluid character movement. All around a very impressie showing. My biggest high point - Both the UK price reveal and the used game announcement bit. Lowest point - The post-apocalyptic teaser trailer turning out to be Mad Max instead of Fallout 4.

With a Walking Dead bundle in the works I might just get a Vita myself. My mate has got one and he never puts it down and the thought of streaming Watch Dogs and everything else while my girlfriend watches TV is swaying it for me.
