You may not have heard of GREE, but the mobile social networking service is huge in Japan where people who play games on smart phones are about as common as men who own pants.
GREE has already announced plans to further spread its wings later this year by making the Japan-only service global. But until today’s announcement of a partnership between GREE and Ubisoft to bring a new Assassin’s Creed game to the upcoming platform on iOS and Android devices, we haven’t had many signs of the sorts of games to expect.
The decision to partner with a well known studio like Ubisoft, suggests that the GREE platform may make a bigger splash when it goes global in Q2 this year. The new Assassin’s Creed game will be available this December in English and Japanese with plans for localized versions in other languages to follow.
