Thor sequel won't get Kenneth Branagh back as director says Marvel Studios boss

Last week saw the rumour mill work itself into a frenzy over the story that Marvel has tapped Kenneth Branagh to return to the director's chair for Thor: Ragnarok. However, Kevin Feige has been discussing the project with Collider and has confirmed that the rumour is without basis…

"Not true," responded Feige, when the notion of Branagh's return was put to him "I don’t know where that came from." Which sounds pretty conclusive to us.

However, Feige did go on to say that there will be an announcement on the film's directorial situation before too long. "Probably towards the end of the summer we would announce a filmmaker and a writer," says the Marvel Studios President. "Maybe the same person, I don’t know, maybe two different people.”

Marvel have gone down the writer / director path in the past with Joss Whedon and James Gunn, and have produced arguably their best work off the back of it, so we'll be hoping they repeat the trick again here. Thor: Ragnarok will open in the US on 3 November 2017, with a UK date to be confirmed.
