Drew Goddard set to write and direct Spider-Man reboot

The forthcoming Marvel / Sony reboot of Spider-Man looks to have found itself a director, with Latino Review reporting that Drew Goddard has been tapped by the studios to take the position.

Goddard had initially been slated to direct Sony’s Sinister Six spin-off, but that project now seems to be on the back burner in light of the recent sharing agreement with Marvel.

The report also goes on to share some supposed plot details from the new film, which will apparently dispense with the origin story formula – Spidey will begin this story as an established crime-fighter.

It also claims that a significant part of the film will see Spider-Man fighting Iron Man before undergoing an “audition” to join the Avengers, while the formation of the Sinister Six will also likely be covered.

Goddard will team up with Kevin Feige, who will be on production duties, as Marvel and Sony finally join forces on one of their most popular characters. What’s more, the film is set to arrive on 28 June 2017, so expect some casting news sooner rather than later.
