Ophelia Lovibond joins Guardians Of The Galaxy

Guardians Of The Galaxy has added another name to its growing cast list, with Ophelia Lovibond the latest to join the intergalactic party.

THR reports that Lovibond will join the cast, with the article initially suggesting she’ll play a character linked to The Collector, one of the Elders of the Universe in the comic-books, whose story is closely bound to that of the villainous Thanos.

That character detail has now been removed from the story, suggesting that either the facts have become muddled, or Marvel’s legal team have intervened. In any case, it’s an interesting development.

In the comics, The Collector learns of Thanos’ universe-threatening abilities and sets about collecting both worlds and life-forms with a view to removing them from the cosmic baddie’s path of destruction.

We know that Thanos is set to come into play at some point in Guardians Of The Galaxy , so it wouldn’t seem too far-fetched that The Collector could also be brought onto the big screen. If he does appear, could Lovibond be playing his daughter Carina Walters? We shall have to wait and see.

Directed by James Gunn and co-starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista and Michael Rooker, Guardians Of The Galaxy opens in the UK on 1 August 2014.
