Joss Whedon calls Planet Hulk movie rumour nonsense

Joss Whedon has categorically denied the rumours that Planet Hulk will serve as an inspiration for the events in The Avengers 2 and 3 .

In an interview with IGN , Whedon was asked if there was any weight behind the claims that the Planet Hulk and World War Hulk comic-book storylines would be used in future Avengers movies.

Whedon’s succinct response was, “Well, I’m really not supposed to comment, but no, that’s nonsense."

And with that, hopes of seeing a space-set standalone Hulk movie with Gladiator overtones are dashed. Well, unless you’ve already seen the lame direct-to-DVD animated adaptation.

Without a wild story arc and a chance to flex his ginormous green muscles in a larger universe, it’s hard to know how Hulk could satisfyingly lead his own movie, which goes some way to explaining why a solo vehicle for Bruce Banner’s alter ego has yet to be confirmed for Marvel’s Phase Two or Three.

Iron Man 3 , Marvel’s first Phase Two movie, opens in the UK on 26 April 2013. The Avengers 2 follows on 1 May 2015.
