The headlining showcase of Summer Game Fest 2026 is over, and proved to be an exceptionally announcement-heavy few hours. From confirmation that Cuphead developer Studio MDHR is working on not one but two Cuphead games, to the surprise reveals of Resident Evil Veronica and Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, this year in particular felt like there was a game for everyone on the docket.

Here's where you get a choice. If you're looking for a quicker rundown of the event's biggest reveals, keep on scrolling. But if you need to know what happened from start to finish, I'd recommend checking out everything announced at Summer Game Fest 2026 Live. With that said – here's what impressed me the most.

6. Resident Evil Veronica

I watched the reveal trailer for Resident Evil Veronica from the deepest recesses of my chair, too scared of its creepy granny to clock what was being shown. But after years of dreaming – mostly from my colleague Jasmine Gould-Wilson – the remake of Capcom's 2000 survival horror has been confirmed. Better yet, it's launching in 2027. I'd recommend watching the trailer before reading anything else – it's an awfully tense few minutes.

Capcom is on a roll this year, revealing Resident Evil Veronica off the back of successful launches for Pragmata, Resident Evil Requiem, and Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection. I'm not holding out for a release date any time soon, but expect to hear more on platforms and the remake's scope in coming months.

5. Alien Isolation 2

It's a big night for horror fans, with Resident Evil Veronica quickly followed by our first look at Alien Isolation 2. Its most apparent change from the original is a shift in scenery, switching Sevastopol for a colony on a distant planet's surface. The mix-up is smart: rather than trying to compete with Sevastopol's signature claustrophobia, opening up creates more of an Aliens-esque push-and-pull – plenty of industrial crawlspaces down below, but the open air can be just as daunting at night.

Over a decade since the original Alien Isolation, it will be interesting to see how Creative Assembly has honed its horror chops over the years. All eyes will be on the Xenomorph's AI – it was already a fiendishly smart hunter in the first game, so one-upping its emergent dread will be no small task. As a coward, allow me to paraphrase Jurassic Park: your developers were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should.

4. Final Fantasy 7 Revelation

Summer Game Fest 2026 closed out with our first look at Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, the third entry in Square Enix's Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy. There's no timed exclusivity this time around, either: "I am truly delighted to unveil Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, which is launching simultaneously on all platforms," shared director Naoki Hamaguchi on stage. There'll be less waiting, too, as Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is set to launch in spring 2027.

We got to see a sizable chunk of the RPG's gameplay, including a look at how we'll be able to jump seamlessly from flying ship The Highguard to the open-world below; along with some footage of fan-favorite Vincent Valentine (voiced by Matt Mercer) in action. Given Final Fantasy 7 Remake was one of the best RPGs of all-time in our books, this already seems like one for Final Fantasy fans to count down the days for.

3. Star Wars Zero Company

A screenshot of the upcoming Xbox game, STAR WARS Zero Company

I am sorry for the person I will become when Star Wars Zero Company is in my hands. You can tell from a glance that there are XCOM veterans at developer Bit Reactor, and the thought of their strategic flair being applied to a gritty Clone Wars-era turn-based game is the stuff (my) dreams are made of.

Star Wars Zero Company's gameplay trailer confirmed it will be releasing on August 27, 2026, and equally important is the glance it gave us at the connective tissue between missions. Hit pause at 00:56 on the trailer and you'll see a hub screen, which suggests we'll have plenty to manage beyond fumbling 96%-to-hit blaster shots. Is Star Wars Zero Company's menu screen one of my Summer Game Fest 2026 highlights? I don't have to answer that!

The Wolf Among Us 2 and The Wolf Among Us remake

Bigby Wolf smokes a cigarette

(Image credit: Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment)

Two for the price of one! Not only did we see the return of Bigby Wolf in a long-awaited trailer for The Wolf Among Us 2, which is slated to launch in 2027, but we're also due a remastered version of the first game towards the end of this year. In the long and turbulent spell since its announcement, previous developer Ad-Hoc Studio created and released 2025 gem Dispatch; while Telltale Games has become something of an unknown quantity.

The runaway success of Dispatch proved interactive narrative fans survived the genre's mainstream drought, and The Wolf Among Us 2 could be poised to strike big. But with a broad 2027 release window, it's unclear whether we'll be seeing it sooner rather than later. After such a long wait, though, I can overlook the particulars.

1. Guild Wars 3

Guild Wars 3

Guild Wars 3 is already promising to be a "modern evolution of the MMO," which are big words indeed. The hundreds of hours I've sunk into my litany of characters in Guild Wars 2 suggests that ArenaNet certainly has the chops to pull it off – as does what we've seen of the game itself, which looks gorgeous but certainly makes Guild Wars 2 seem creaky in comparison.

There are three big takeaways from Guild Wars 3's reveal. First: this is a prequel, set a millennia before the first Guild Wars. Second: it's making the jump to console, and will launch on PS5 alongside PC. Finally, there's going to be a closed beta this year – which you can sign up for here. See you in the field that will one day become Divinity's Reach?
