Starfield is positioning itself for a relaunch on April 7, with the Free Lanes update and Terran Armada DLC landing in tandem with the RPG finally arriving on PS5. There's changes to interplanetary space travel, pushes to make exploration more varied, and a suite of improvements to crafting, customization, and more. But Bethesda is also aware that it needs to bring more for the players who have been quietly exploring the Settled Systems since the beginning.

Exploring the Future of Starfield: How Bethesda Game Studios is beginning to breathe new life into its most misunderstood RPG

If you've been playing Starfield since its original release in 2023 and are finding that you're running out of items to spend your credits on, Bethesda has the answer. "What is your idea of an aspirational item?" asks Tim Lamb, lead creative producer at Bethesda Game Studios, in an interview with GamesRadar+. "If you've been saving your credits up all along, what is that one thing that you want – well, who doesn't want a player house inside of a hollowed out asteroid?"

You know what? He isn't wrong. Bethesda gave me a look at Asteroid Manor when I went to visit the studio's new headquarters last week, and of everything that I was shown during the day it's this player house that has really burrowed into my mind. It looks larger than the Core Manor on Akila City and Mercury Tower Penthouse apartments you can gain access to in the base game, and it's certainly more impressive than the locale unlocked by picking the Dream Home trait during character creation.

Lamb calls it "a home among the stars" and it's absolutely lush. A big spacious atrium has these mesmerising views out into space, but from there you can move into the lower levels of the asteroid. All of this area can be decorated, of course, given that it's a player house, but at a base line it has a vibe that Lamb describes best as "Bond villain chic." While he wouldn't get into the origins of this location, it does sound as if it has some ties into some deep Starfield lore, so who knows if this really is a location fit for a Settled Systems supervillain.

"My favorite part is the downstairs layer. There's this recreation area with a weight room and swimming pool. Because who doesn't want to put up their feet in a hollowed out asteroid base in the stars after they're done fighting the UC, killing spacers, and commandeering ships? It's a great place to just sit down, relax, and occasionally push your favorite companions into the pool."

If you're interested in checking the house out come April 7, Lamb teases that access to it is hidden away in a new spaceport called Anchor Point. "You have to dig a little to find it, but I won't spoil the surprise there. But it's Anchor Point where you find out about it, how much it costs, and how you can get to it."
