Dragon's Dogma 2 gets "permanent discount" ahead of Dark Arisen as Capcom cuts microtransactions and Deluxe Edition "due to the development of additional content"
Expect the changes on June 25
The cat's out of the bag following the most recent Nintendo Direct, as Dragon's Dogma 2 is confirmed to be receiving a new expansion dubbed Dark Arisen this fall, along with some much-needed free updates to boot.
That's not all, though. In preparation for Dark Arisen and all of the changes coming to the base RPG, Capcom says it's shaking up the available Dragon's Dogma 2 DLC – in other words, microtransactions – and doing away with the more expensive Deluxe Edition of the game.
The studio reveals as much in an online post… an "end of sales announcement" for the pricier version of the title and some of its optional purchases.
"Due to the development of additional content and various adjustments for the upcoming title update," Capcom writes that what will no longer be available for Dragon's Dogma 2 come June 25 – and yes, this applies to all platforms, from PlayStation 5 to PC.
First is the $80 Deluxe Edition, which is followed by various microtransactions, like the $15 New Journey Pack and various Rift Crystal bundles.
To prepare for the release of Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, we'll be discontinuing the Deluxe Edition of Dragon's Dogma 2, as well as certain DLC items on June 24, 5pm PT/ June 25, 1am BST. Also, the digital version of the base game will receive a permanent discount - check… pic.twitter.com/giXfPnmB7BJune 11, 2026
Capcom does clarify that the content it's removing "can still be used if previously obtained," so folks who have already purchased any of the DLC don't need to worry about losing it – same goes for the Deluxe Edition goodies.
Not everything is disappearing from the optional shop, however. The Camping Kit and soundtrack will continue to be available after the turn of the month and indefinitely, leaving some side purchases up for grabs.
Most importantly, though, Capcom states that "the base Dragon's Dogma 2 game will also receive a permanent discount." That's pretty good news (even though I might be a little bit bitter about purchasing the Deluxe copy at full price myself), and the community seems quite pleased with the plans overall.
As one comment reads, "Another Capcom W." Others call the developer's plans a "great decision" as "MTX shouldn't exist."
Hear, hear! Now, let's just hope that Dark Arisen proves to be a decent expansion – arguably, the RPG could use some solid new content, and this might just be Capcom's chance to deliver it.
