The best build for the Red Prince in Divinity Original Sin 2 will be one that makes the best use of his innate abilities. The royal lizard is gifted with Dragon's Blaze, an exhalation of powerful fire, and a Demonic Stare that can strip an opponent's Magic Armor and apply it to yourself. Not only that, but the Prince comes with an inherent buff in Fire and Poison Resistance, and even a Persuasion buff – apparently he's a real charmer. We'll explain everything you need to know about making the best build for the Red Prince in DOS2 below, and what you'll require to do just that.

If you've already made Red into something else, you can quickly rebuild him with the Divinity Original Sin 2 respec system!

The inherent abilities of the Red Prince in DOS2 lend him towards multiple builds, such as Summoners and Fighters, both of which are viable, powerful options, but I personally recommend a character that blends Pyrokinetic and Warfare skills, as well as a few supplementary Geomancer of Scoundrel powers. It's similar to the Pyro Battlemage build on our best Divinity Original Sin 2 builds page, but with some additional flexibility.

Here's what you need to know about building the best possible build for the Red Prince:

  • Primary Attributes: Strength, Intelligence, Constitution
  • Primary Skills: Pyrokinetic, Warfare
  • Secondary Skills: Geomancer, Scoundrel
  • Weapons: One-handed + Shield, or Two-Handed (player preference)
  • Skills Books/Spells:
    • Pyrokinetic: Haste, Ignition, Sparking Swings, Bleed Fire, Fireball, Fire Whip, Spontaneous Combustion, Supernova, Master of Sparks
    • Warfare: Battering Ram, Battle Stomp, Provoke, Challenge, Bouncing Shield, Blitz Attack, Phoenix Dive, Whirlwind, Onslaught, Guardian Angel

The build here is about effectively playing a tanky fighter who can also use short/mid-range Pyrokinetic powers to ignite enemies and empower your own melee attacks. Later on you can start to adapt certain low level Geomancer and Scoundrel skills to slow foes and increase your own mobility, but these are largely in support of the main goal, which is to get up close and burn through enemies. With both Pyro and Melee at your disposal, you can target either Physical or Magical armor as needed, depending on your opponent's weakness.

In terms of weapons and equipment, that's largely to your preference. I suggest one-handed weapons with a shield, as the Bouncing Shield ability is very good as an early power and your Demonic Stare lends towards being a tank, but in reality it depends on what equipment you've found along the way.
