Getting all the Mewgenics class collars is vital to success. While every cat is born with their own stats, the collars mean you can choose any class for them. Naturally, some cats are built better for specific classes than others, and Mewgenics breeding comes in to play here, but the right choice can turn a cat with middling stats to one of the best. Here's everything you need to know about collars in Mewgenics.

How to get all the collars in Megenics

  • Fighter collar – Available at the start of the game
  • Tank collar - Available at the start of the game
  • Mage collar - Available at the start of the game
  • Hunter collar - Available at the start of the game
  • Cleric collar - Complete Alley and talk to Butch
  • Thief Collar - Complete Sewer and talk to Butch
  • Necromancer collar - Complete Boneyard and talk to Butch
  • Tinkerer collar - Complete Shelter and talk to Butch
  • Druid collar - Complete The Crater and talk to Butch
  • Butcher collar - Complete The Core and talk to Butch
  • Psychic collar - Complete The Moon and talk to Butch
  • Monk - Complete The Lab and talk to Butch
  • Jester - Complete The Rift and talk to Butch
  • Blank collars - Three available to buy over the course of the game

Mewgenics Fighter collar

  • +2 Strength +1 Speed -1 Intelligence
  • How to get – Available at the start of the game

The Fighter is your classic damage focused class that takes the frontlines to destroy enemies with its high attack and movement stats, however you'll be taking a hit to your intelligence, meaning your mana will not recharge quite as fast as other classes. However the high damage and solid health makes for a solid addition to most runs

Mewgenics Tank collar

(Image credit: Edmund McMillen, Tyler Glaiel)
  • +4 Constitution -1 Intelligence -1 Dexterity
  • How to get – Available at the start of the game

The Tank excels at just being beefy. Its high health stat allows it to take a beating like nobody else. It even has a passive ability which allows you to swap places with any unit about to take damage and take the hit for them. The tank is best paired with a good strength stat which will allow it to become a somewhat unstoppable force.

Mewgenics Mage collar

Mewgenics Mage collar

  • +2 Intelligence, +2 Charisma, -1 Constitution -1 Strength
  • How to get – Available at the start of the game

The Mage's toolkit revolves around three elements – Fire, Ice, and Lightning – each of which can demolish enemies with status effects and strong magic damage. Unfortunately, Mages are generally pretty weak, so unless your cat has a great constitution stat to begin with, you'll likely be one of the weaker units when it comes to how much damage you can take.

Mewgenics Hunter collar

Mewgenics Hunter collar

(Image credit: Edmund McMillen, Tyler Glaiel)
  • +3 Dexterity +2 Luck -1 Constitution -2 Speed
  • How to get – Available at the start of the game

Much like the Mage the Hunter is a pretty weak unit when it comes to the actual HP of your cat, but the focus on long-range attacks, traps, and familiars means enemies will have to work to actually get their way to you. The Marked skill makes sure you never miss enemies take more damage is especially potent when mixed with skills like the Heavy Shot – which typically has a 70% fail rate.

Mewgenics desert survival tips

Struggling with the Mewgenics desert? Here's some tips to help you survive.

While some cat classes have self-healing abilities, you're going to really struggle without a Cleric until you get proficient at the game. The Cleric is focused on healing, so you'll mostly want a cat that has good Strength to maximize the amount of healing given. It can also double as quite a potent damage dealer with the right build through both its Holy damage and general Strength.

Mewgenics Thief collar

Mewgenics Thief collar

(Image credit: Edmund McMillen, Tyler Glaiel)
  • +4 Speed +1 Luck -1 Strength -1 Constitution
  • How to get – Complete Sewer and talk to Butch

While the initial five classes are fairly straightforward, this class requires just a bit more strategy. The Thief features a ranged attack that excels when used as a backstab, it has multiple skills available for getting you behind opponents and dealing massive damage, but this issue is that you're very much a glass cannon, and if you're in the wrong spot, you're bound to get destroyed.

Mewgenics Necromancer collar

Mewgenics Necromancer collar

  • +2 Constitution +1 Charisma -2 Strength
  • How to get – Complete Junkyard and talk to Butch

As the Necromancer name implies you'll have some control over the dead, allowing you to revive friends, enemies, and even things that weren't on the battlefield. The downside is that its basic leech attack is somewhat weak, but once you build up your leech count you can become a status effect monster.

Just keep in mind that zombie cats will eat downed units instantly killing them. That includes your own.

Mewgenics Tinkerer collar

Mewgenics Tinkerer collar

(Image credit: Edmund McMillen, Tyler Glaiel)
  • +4 Intelligence -1 Luck -1 Charisma
  • How to get – Complete Shelter and talk to Butch

The Tinkerer is another class with a good amount of utility – either being a damage dealing beast or a great summoner. Its main attack is crafting items for its weapon slot which can then be used, or you can throw said item at an enemy to deal damage and get rid of it and if you accumulate the exclusive Tech status via skills, the quality of those items will be far greater. The Tinkerer's skills also allow it to summon the likes of turrets and healing bots that will help out your team, but this requires getting a good RNG for these skills to arrive.

Mewgenics Druid collar

Mewgenics Druid collar

(Image credit: Edmund McMillen, Tyler Glaiel)
  • +3 Charisma +1 Luck -2 Constitution
  • How to get – Complete The Crater and talk to Butch

From my experience, the Druid is the most dependent on getting a good build. It being by far the weakest class in terms of HP makes it a real tough sell, but this class grows across a run either as a support class or a summoner. If you manage to get a few summoning-based skills you can easily fill the screen with friendly squirrels, frogs, and bears.

One major plus for the Druid is that it comes with a bird familiar, effectively acting as a free fifth unit while the Druid itself focuses on support or summoning.

Mewgenics Butcher collar

Mewgenics Butcher collar

(Image credit: Edmund McMillen, Tyler Glaiel)
  • +3 Constitution +2 Strength -2 Speed
  • How to get – Complete The Core and talk to Butch

The Butcher seems too good to be true, with extremely high health and great damage, paired with an eight-way hook that brings enemies to you and an eight-way attack that carves them into food pickups. If anything it may seem like a better version of the Tank, but lacks the speed and skills to protect your team as effectively.

Mewgenics Psychic collar

Mewgenics Psychic collar

(Image credit: Edmund McMillen, Tyler Glaiel)
  • +1 Intelligence +1 Charisma +1 Speed -1 Constitution
  • How to get – Complete The Moon and talk to Butch

The Psychic collar focuses on controlling the arena, with a main attack that pulls enemies towards you. This is best mixed with an area like the desert where there are Cactus all over the place to give you extra damage to slam enemies into. The Psychic also features line of sight skills which can be incredibly potent, but need to be used carefully to avoid debuffing your allies or buffing your enemies.

Mewgenics Monk collar

Mewgenics Monk collar

(Image credit: Edmund McMillen, Tyler Glaiel)
  • +2 Intelligence +2 Charisma -1 Strength -1 Constitution
  • How to get – Complete The Lab and talk to Butch

The monk is a jack of all trades class allowing you to swap between both ranged and melee stances. The issue being that neither attack is particularly strong. However the Monk's skills can allow for total oppression to overwhelm enemies. Plus it features a ton of attacks ripped straight from anime – so naturally these are a bit overpowered.

Mewgenics Jester collar

Mewgenics Jester collar

(Image credit: Edmund McMillen, Tyler Glaiel)
  • No stats
  • How to get – Complete The Rift and talk to Butch

I know I just called the Monk the jack of all trades, but the Jester takes that quite literally. This class has no stat changes and will allow you to gain abilities from any class. So far I haven't had much luck with it, but I imagine you can create some wild synergies with this class.

Mewgenics blank collars

Over the course of the game you'll be able to purchase three Blank Collars. These allow you to bring a second cat in the same class on a run with you. However, which class this is is entirely chosen at random.
