Final Fantasy 7 Revelation recasts Sephiroth with another Superman voice actor
Swapping one Clark Kent with another Clark Kent
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation has recast the series' iconic villain Sephiroth at the last minute, swapping one Superman voice actor with another due to scheduling problems.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and the most recent Crisis Core remaster all had Tyler Hoechlin lending his vocal chords to the big bad after having played Clark Kent, AKA Superman, in many a live-action CW show.
But as you might have noticed from last night's huge Summer Game Fest reveal trailer, Sephiroth sounds quite different as he bullies Cloud here. More menacing, growling and less dangerously excited - and that's because he's voiced by a whole different human this time around.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake series director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed the recast yesterday in an interview with Maximilian Dood, citing availability issues. "So, yes, the former voice actor that was doing the voice for Sepiroth was unable to do the voice for this one. So we do have a new voice actor," he said via a translator.
For the upcoming finale, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation's Sephiroth will instead be voiced by Travis Willingham, another actor who's played Superman in a bunch of animated shows and seems to be doing a good job here, too. He also has a really extensive video game background with credits on everything from Tales of Vesperia and The World Ends With You to Halo 5 and Marvel Rivals.
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is set to conclude the trilogy in spring 2027 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
