Flies Like Him

If he can stop watching Lost for five minutes (see Aronofsky gets Lost story), Darren Aronofsky just might find time to direct Black Flies.

Paramount, spotting an early opportunity, has snatched up the rights to the novel, written by Shannon Burke, a former Harlem paramedic. The book, which is based on her years saving lives on the streets looks to be a stylish – if depressing – stare into the world of a character slowly losing faith with her job choice. Black Flies follows her as she attends medical school, finding a mentor whose outlook on life is so numbed that he makes a wrong decision in a life-and-death situation.

The studio is now hunting around for a script-scribbler to work under Aronofsky’s supervision.
