It's happening again. Following the second wave of The Odyssey IMAX 70mm tickets going on sale, scalpers are already reselling tickets online for preposterous prices.
On Thursday, June 4, tickets for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey in IMAX 70mm went on sale and immediately drew huge demand, causing sites like Fandango and AMC to crash, according to Forbes. Wait times for tickets reached over an hour, but it wasn't long until scalpers started reselling tickets on eBay for upwards of $1000.
This isn't the first time The Odyssey tickets have found their way on selling sites. In July 2025, the first round of tickets for the movie's opening day, July 17, went on sale. But in just one hour, the tickets had almost completely sold out, with scalpers selling the tickets for up to $150 in places such as Los Angeles and New York City. It seems as though those kinds of people are taking advantage of the situation yet again and upping their prices.
The tickets are in such high demand because they are for the movie's opening weekend on the biggest screens possible. The Odyssey, which is projected to generate hundreds of millions of dollars, is the first movie ever to be shot exclusively on IMAX cameras, meaning that seeing it on an IMAX screen is pretty much mandatory for diehard Nolan fans. However, there are different sizes of IMAX screens.
As demonstrated on The Odyssey website, the IMAX 70mm (1:43:1) is the biggest, but it is only available at a handful of cinemas around the world. Those lucky enough to see The Odyssey in 70mm will witness Nolan's epic in triple the resolution of standard 35mm screen. Plus, due to the length of the screen, viewers will also technically see a lot more of the movie without any bits being cut off. The next best thing would be the regular IMAX screen (1:90:1).
Based on Homer's ancient Greek epic, The Odyssey follows a warrior named Odysseus (Matt Damon) who gets lost on his way back from the Trojan War. But the Greek Gods intervene and put the hero on a 10-year journey back home. The movie also stars Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, and Zendaya.
