Dwayne Johnson hints at early release for Shazam

Last year saw Warner Bros unveil their grand plan for the DC universe, documenting release dates for a whole host of films, including the 2019 arrival of Shazam. However, Dwayne Johnson has suggested the film may be along a little earlier than that...

Johnson is set to play Black Adam in the forthcoming film, and told MTV that, "no, I don't think it is going to be that far away. It's going to be earlier than that. I don't think 2019."

If Johnson is right and Shazam is going to be fast-tracked, presumably something else in Warner's DC lineup will have to be moved back. At present the studio is planning to release two DC titles per year, and upping that to three per year would potentially risk audience fatigue, particularly with Marvel also releasing a similar number of titles over the same timeframe.

Shazam has yet to officially be brought forward, but this isn't the first time Johnson has suggested the film will arrive earlier than 2019. One to watch with interest…
