Who? Oscar-nominated for her debut feature – True Grit – at the age of thirteen? Pretty hot.j

Why So Hot? After her outstanding turn in the Coens' Western remake, Steinfeld's name was soon uniqiutous on casting shortlists, and she was hotly tipped for the key role of Katniss in The Hunger Games.

Paramount Pictures decided to keep their young star close though, inking a deal to produce an adaptation of sci-fi novel Forgotten specifically for Steinfeld. She’s also attached to a revisionist tale of Sleeping Beauty but both projects are still in early development stages.

What's Next? Filming will soon begin on a retelling of the Shakespeare classic Romeo and Juliet , which also stars British up-and-comers Douglas Booth and Ed Westwick, and will be directed by Carlo Carlei.

Jesse Eisenberg

Who? After years as an indie staple, Eisenberg became an Oscar-nominated actor for his role as Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network.

In The Social Network we saw a different side to his acting abilities – the shy, awkward geek, who doesn’t get the girl, doesn’t become the hero, and is instead a complicated and reluctant villian.

Since then, we've mostly seen projects filmed before his Social Network -assisted rise, but he'll soon be back – working with director Noah Baumach in W hile We’re Young and then in magician bank heist thriller Now You See Me , with Melanie Laurent.

What’s Next? Eisenberg is currently filming Woody Allen’s next picture, The Bop Decameron with Ellen Page and Greta Gerwig.

Who? When Tim Burton decided he wanted an unknown actress cast in his remake of the fantastical Alice In Wonderland, he chose Australian actress Wasikowska.

Why So Hot? After Alice In Wonderland, Wasikowska was picked for Lisa Cholodenko’s The Kids Are All Right, which was nominated for a Best Picture gong at the Oscars.

Director Gus Van Sant ( Good Will Hunting, Milk) then recommended Mia to Cary Fukunaga for the title role in Fukunaga’s adaptation of Jane Eyre – it paid off, as Wasikowska and the film received outstanding reviews when it was released in America.

Jeremy Irvine

Who? Picked from obscurity by Steven Spielberg himself, Irvine is about to headline Spielberg's World War I epic War Horse.

Why So Hot? Before being cast alongside David Thewlis and Benedict Cumberbatch in War Horse, Irvine had only spent time on the stage and in MTV UK series Life Bites .

The film, based on the novel of the same name, follows a young man named Albert (Irvine) whose horse is sold to the calvary by his father, and so he enlists in the army in order to reunite with the beast. It's one of the most anticiapted films this year, especially considering the stage play won Olivier and Tony awards.

Since filming finished on War Horse, Irvine has joined the cast of Great Expectations , to be directed by Mike Newell ( Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire), and also starring Ralph Fiennes and Helena Bonham Carter.

What's Next? Jeremy is currently filming Now Is Good with Dakota Fanning and Kaya Scodelario, about a terminally ill teenage girl who wants to experience life to the full before she dies. Nice.

Saoirse Ronan

Who? Ronan became one of the youngest Oscar nominated actresses for her role in 2007's war drama Atonement.

Why So Hot? Despite her young age, Ronan proved herself by sticking to period pieces and drama films, and earning BAFTA, Golden Globe and Oscar nominations.

Soon she'll start shooting Andrew Niccol’s adaptation of Twilight author Stephenie Meyer’s The Host, where in a post-apocalyptic world, aliens called “souls” have taken control of the bodies of the human population.

After that, she'll go back to the period dramas, working again with director Joe Wright on Anna Karenina .

What's Next? Hanna, in which Saoirse stars as a 16-year-old assasin is released on DVD at the end of this month, and shooting will soon start on Byzantium, featuring Gemma Arterton and Saoirse as a mother/daughter vampire duo.

Armie Hammer

Who? Hammer won the admiration of everyone when he deftly played both Winklevoss twins in The Social Network

Why So Hot? With his all-American good looks, it was only a matter of time until Hammer was cast as someone’s prince – and Relativity got there first, choosing him to play Snow White’s Prince Andrew in their still untitled Snow White movie, alongside Lily Collins.

But Hammer has proved it’s not all about the looks, with roles in Gore Verbinski’s action film The Lone Ranger, currently in pre-production, and indie thriller 2.22, which see’s him play an air traffic controller who witnesses a strange phenomenon that nearly causes two planes to collide – at 2:22pm.

What's Next? A starring role in Clint Eastwood’s biopic about former FBI director, J Edgar Hoover ( J Edgar) and also starring Leonardo DiCaprio, is set for release in the States this October.
