Matt Reeves favourite to take over Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes

It was only last week that we were reporting the possibility of Rupert Wyatt departing from simian sequel Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes , but it seems that FOX are already in the market for a replacement.

Wyatt was reportedly uncomfortable with the incredibly tight schedule demanded by the studio in order to ensure the film hits its scheduled release date of 23 May 2014. Clearly he felt unable to do himself justice against the clock…

As we had previously speculated, Fox would need to move quickly to draft a replacement in time, and it seems that Cloverfield ’s Matt Reeves has swiftly positioned himself at the top of their most-wanted list.

The likes of Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, Scott Cooper and even Guillermo del Toro are also thought to be on the shortlist, although Reeves is currently the studio’s number one pick.

A script has been completed by writers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, and Fox execs are thought to be ready to move on it as soon as possible. With that in mind, expect an official directorial appointment very soon…
