A Walk Among The Tombstones review

Neeson puts on his detective shoes

A step in the right direction for its star, Scott Frank’s thriller (based on Lawrence Block’s Matthew Scudder books) spends more time showing Liam Neeson’s world-weary PI finding people than killing them, though there’s plenty of that too. Scudder’s hunt for a man’s (Dan Stevens) kidnapped wife makes a compellingly nasty case; his burgeoning friendship with a streetwise teen a little less so.

Exciting, in places, though a stranger to subtlety, it ticks all the genre boxes, but there’s something about its knowing noirisms that feels superficial rather than soaked-in.
