"We really should hate attending the Jump Festa videogame and comic show. But the promise of Square Enix titles making their playable debut is way too much to pass up."

"At this year's event, open to the public on Saturday and Sunday, Square Enix was once again the main attraction for the videogame crowd. With the promise of playable debuts for the Final Fantasy fighting game for PSP, Final Fantasy: Dissidia, the new DS Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days, and the new mobile Final Fantasy IV spinoff, Final Fantasy IV: The After."

"This year's showcase had Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy XIII sandwiching short clips of the Parasite Eve mobile sequel and the Blu-ray version of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children."

In addition, Sega, Capcom, Bandai Namco, Nintendo, and Microsoft all have booths at the Jump Festa this year. 1UP's report briefly covers all of them.

VGChartz has just uploaded the new hard- and software sales for the week of September 30 - October 6. Not suprisingly, Halo 3 remains the top selling game in the US with an additional 562.000 copies in its second week, which brings its total to almost 3.2 million. Nintendo DS's biggest title of the year thus far, The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, debuted on second place with almost 350.000 copies. Also, NBA 2K8 on the Xbox 360 outsold NBA Live 08 on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 2 with a debut of 116.000, compared to NBA Live's 102.000 on the Xbox 360. Microsofts exclusive title Project Gotham Racing 4 debuted with just 90.000 copies in its first week.

On the hardware side, the Halo 3 effect seems to still effect the Xbox 360 hardware sales as Xbox 360 hardware numbers jumped another 6% to almost 130.000. Nintendo DS was still the top selling hardware this week, despite a 5% decline to 135.000 copies. Nintendo Wii sales dropped 2% to 95.000 as Playstation 3 numbers remained at the same level with almost 30.000 units. Check out all this weeks numbers after the jump.
A playable demo of the daddy of 360 racing games is now up on Xbox Live Marketplace. Give the bikes a try for yourself...

As CVG reported back in September, the demo even features content not seen in the final game. This officially makes it a collector's item and we're downloading the 1.3GB demo right now.

You get to race three exotic cars and two bikes across courses based in Macau and a snowy Nürburgring. There's an exclusive Nürburgring Snow Challenge to fail ...
Up to now racing games have given you one thing to worry about; get as far in front of your opponents as possible and stay there until you reach the chequered flag. But now, thanks to Project Gotham Racing 4, power sliding its way onto 360 this Friday, you'll also have changing weather systems to deal with.

Rain, fog, storms and a host of other condition's can all loom over the race track at a moments notice, causing you to change your breaking distances and racing lines ...
Bizarre Creations has elaborated on comments made by PGR lead designer Ged Talbot, who shares his ideas for his next racing game with us below.

A Bizarre spokesperson has stated that Talbot's ideas, which include non-city environments and ATV vehicles, were referring to "the next game he works on," rather than any one particular title.

In a recent interview, PGR 4's lead designer Talbot said that "next time" he'd like to focus more on the detail. "That's what we think; we think ...

If you're au fait with the whole import scene, it seems that you'll be able to get hold of Project Gotham Racing 4 ahead of its PAL release, because the game is region free. According to Play-Asia.com, the Asian version of Bizarre's final instalment in the Gotham series will work with all three territorial versions (PAL, NTSC-U and NTSC-J) of the 360, and better still, actually has the Asian version in stock.

Although 360Gamer are not able to validate this claim at the moment they point out that Play-Asia's usually pretty reliable when it comes to such matters. Better still, with it being the Asian version, it's considerably cheaper (£25, sans tax and import duty) than the official PAL release will be as well ¿ so not only does that mean you can probably get hold of Gotham 4 earlier, you could wind up saving a bit of cash, too.

Before its recent acquisition by Activision, Microsoft had already told Bizarre Creations that it would no longer be used for the development of future instalments of the microsoft-owned PGR series - thus ending a close working relationship and presumably prompting Bizarre's eventual sale.

According to a source within Bizarre who cannot be named (such is the way with such things), Microsoft had informed Bizarre that it would be taking development of future Gotham games in-house, before its then owners had decided to put the developer up for sale.
The biggest news of their fate comes from Microsoft, which owns the rights to the Project Gotham Racing series. "Project Gotham Racing is a signature racing franchise for Xbox 360 and Xbox Live and we plan to continue the series but we have nothing further to announce," the publisher said in a statement yesterday. PGR4, recently completed, is due to go on sale here on 12th October.
PGR is a Microsoft owned IP, so the European studio's decision to be acquired by Activision means the franchise will fall into the hands of another when Microsoft decides to move forward with the inevitable Project Gotham Racing 5. What happens in the immediate future, however, isn't so clear.
That will not be the case, as Microsoft owns the PGR franchise.

The newest edition of the British Official Xbox Magazine has just hit stores and already some review scores have made their way to the internet. Two big games from Microsoft for this holiday season have been reviewed, Halo 3, which came out yesterday and Project Gotham Racing 4 which will hit retail in about two weeks.

Though you would think Halo 3 would steal the show easily, PGR4 has earned a perfect 10/10 review from OXM UK. No specific ups and downs have been revealed yet but the game has managed to score a perfect 10/10 score. This compared to Halo 3, which has 'just' received a 9/10 score.

Although it is obvious that the hype and sales for Halo 3 will probably be way bigger then Project Gotham Racing 4, this is still a remarkable achievement.

Project Gotham Racing 4 (Xbox 360, Microsoft): 10
Halo 3 (Xbox 360, Microsoft): 9
Sept 25, 2007

Activision has bought Bizarre Creations, creator of the Project Gotham Racing series, and tucked it under the Activision umbrella of developers. Which, in the words of Bizarre's Ben Ward, means the developer is now "a truly multiplatform studio". So, PGR4 for PS3?

"We're no longer tied to just one platform," Ward announces on the official Bizarre website, adding that "future titles can be on whatever [platform] we please". However, The Club will still be published by Sega, and ...
What with the wealth of fantastic games coming out over the next couple of months, Project Gotham Racing 4 hasn't received as much attention as you would normally expect. But that's likely to change very soon as the game's shaping up to be even better than its predecessor, as these new screenshots from the game's photo mode show.

The lavish reflection effects in the cars' bodywork are rendered in real-time and even extend to mirroring the animated 3D people at the track's ...

Of the 50 Achievements listed, the hardest two involve reaching the rank of Hotshot and Professional. Pulling this off earns you 70 points for each. This is followed by a pair of 50 point achievements, Numero Uno and Whitewash. You'll have to reach rank number one on the single player career drivers' leaderboard and win every event in a single player or ranked match championship to get the 100 points between these two.

Project Gotham Racing 4 is scheduled for release on October 2, so look for it four Tuesdays from now.
Bizarre Creations has sent out word that Project Gotham Racing 4 is almost finished. Good news then.

"So Bizarre is a crazy place to be right now," reads the update. "PGR4 is on the brink of release, which subsequently means that for some people their work here is done. Many of the team are enjoying some well earned time off, but it's bittersweet as they're also on-call should they be needed back at the ...

As reported yesterday, a poster on the Beyond 3D forum - who, it was believed, worked at Ninja Theory - slated the video of Bizarre Creation's racer, claiming it could not possibly be in-game.

Ninja Theory has now been in contact with jolt.co.uk to inform them that the comments do not represent the developer's views.
"The person who made this comment does not currently work for Ninja Theory and did not work for Ninja Theory when he made these statements," Ninja Theory's Andy O'Dowd told jolt.co.uk in an email.
Bundling another Gemoetry Wars with PGR4, well, that's also a good move. Bizarre have announced that Project Gotham Racing 4 will include Geometry Wars: Waves, which while being a "new" game is not, apparently, the next "true game" in the series and is based on Retro Evolved. So...newish, then? At any rate, it won't be available over XBLA (for now, anyway), so if you want it you're going to need to pony up for PGR4.

Bizarre has also confirmed that the game will be launching on 12 October, which might not be as cool as we'd hoped before but nevertheless, for £44.99 should be a steal.
It's difficult to keep the fourth game in any series fresh - especially when it's a racer. But this is a fact that the lads at Bizarre Creations are well aware of...

Bikes and weather effects are the biggest touting points of PGR4 - but web and community lead Ben Ward assures us they're more than just for show. In fact, he reckons this'll be the best installment since PGR2. Here's hoping...

Including Metropolis Street Racer, this is your fifth racer. What else can you do in the genre?

The DVD vs. Blu-ray debate is being fired up again this morning, as PGR4 developer Bizarre Creations blames DVD size for the reason you won't see different times of day in PGR4.

Speaking on its official forums, a Bizarre spokesperson said: "You won't see different times of day per city because this involves recreating all the textures again (one for day and one for night). Whilst this wasn't a problem for our dev team, it was a problem fitting all this data onto a single DVD."

Project Gotham Racing 3 was one of the greatest launch titles for the Xbox 360, but it wasn't much of a sequel. While the graphics were obviously sharper, the gameplay hadn't really improved from previous games in the franchise. We were simply too busy drooling at all the shiny next-gen graphics to notice.

Fortunately, the developers at Bizarre Creations aren't content to shovel more of the same to their fans. That's why Project Gotham Racing 4 is being designed as a true upgrade, with ...

Bizarre business director Brian Woodhouse told Eurogamer, "This one, we're not letting go till it's done."
He commented on PGR3 stating, "We just ran out of time. We feel like we've got more time [on PGR4]. Last time round, we feel like we got the game ripped away from us."

Following the release of Microsoft's Forza Motorsport 2, Bizarre Creations' forthcoming Project Gotham Racing 4 represents the next high profile racing title for the Xbox 360, but this did not keep the game from being taken to task during E3 by the gaming media, some of who questioned the studio's decision to opt for 30 frames per second gameplay rather than 60.

"We looked at that," commented Adam Kovach, PGR 4's global product manager during an E3 demonstration. "We debated for a long time... we looked at what we would be giving up if we tried to go to 60 versus 30 frames a second. We don't want to lose the visual fidelity... we made a conscious decision that 30 frames plus all the effects in the game was far more important than having a pure 60."
17 new screenshots from Project Gotham Racing 4 officially lift the lid on the inclusion of bikes in the sequel.

"...this brings a massive new dimension to PGR racing," says developer Bizarre in an extensive in-house preview on the two-wheel racing. "The game will feature both cars and bikes on the same track at the same time, with unique 'Gotham style' handling. One thing's for sure: this isn't bikes as you've seen them before..."

It explains that one of its main missions with bikes was to ...

Microsoft today released the final US boxart for Project Gotham Racing 4, which will be released exclusively for Xbox 360 later this year. We all know that PGR4 will feature tons of great, high-performance cars but there have been some rumors that PGR4 would feature motorcycles as well.

Microsoft nor Bizarre Creations denied or confirmed this rumor but if you look at the PGR4 boxart you can see a motorcycle in the reflection of the car behind the PGR4 logo. Does this mean PGR4 will indeed be featuring motorcycles for the first time ever in the franchise?

We will probably see a lot more of the game at the coming E3, which is finally beginning next week. Maybe Microsoft will show off some motorcycling action!

While this won't strictly have an impact on when we get it, given that Gotham 4 is being developed right here in the UK by Liverpool-based Bizarre Creations, we can probably expect it around the same time, if not slightly sooner.
A KIA car model featured in Xbox 360-exclusive PRG3 has been used in an image promoting the car manufacturer and the PlayStation 3. Whoops...

For the record this is the second time assets from Project Gotham Racing have been used in conjunction with a PlayStation promotion.
