Before its recent acquisition by Activision, Microsoft had already told Bizarre Creations that it would no longer be used for the development of future instalments of the microsoft-owned PGR series - thus ending a close working relationship and presumably prompting Bizarre's eventual sale.
The newest edition of the British games magazine EDGE has just hit stores and first readers already posted all the review scores on the internet. This months edition contains reviews of some big titles like Halo 3, PGR4, Metroid Prime 3, Lair, SKATE, Stranglehold, SEGA Rally and Eternal Sonata.
With Bizarre Creations now part of Activision, attention has turned to the developer's existing titles and whether they have a future. The biggest news of their fate comes from Microsoft, which owns the rights to the Project Gotham Racing series. "Project Gotham Racing is a signature racing franchise for Xbox 360 and Xbox Live and we plan to continue the series but we have nothing further to announce," the publisher said in a statement yesterday. PGR4, recently completed, is due to go on sale here on 12th October.
As of today, Bizarre Creations is no longer part of the Project Gotham Racing series. PGR is a Microsoft owned IP, so the European studio's decision to be acquired by Activision means the franchise will fall into the hands of another when Microsoft decides to move forward with the inevitable Project Gotham Racing 5. What happens in the immediate future, however, isn't so clear.
With the news of Activision acquiring Bizarre Creations today, many have become worried that the popular Project Gotham Racing franchise would be going multiplatform. That will not be the case, as Microsoft owns the PGR franchise.
