Will the new Deus Ex live up to the hype?

Does Deus Ex: Human Revolution have a shot at living up to our expectations as a successor to the number one PC game of all time? It’s suddenly a lot more likely than you think. Also, the new Call of Duty: Black Ops faces off against EA’s Medal of Honor reboot in a battle to become 2010’s shootiest shooter. Plus: We’ve played one third of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty’s campaign and looked into the face of id’s Rage, reviewed Obsidian’s spy RPG Alpha Protocol and Bohemia’s ultra-realistic ArmA II: Operation Arrowhead, and tinkered with a sweet $7,000 Digital Storm gaming rig, all in one thrilling, nougat-rich issue.

"Will the new Deus Ex live up to the hype?" I'm gonna say no. It will be a great game with plenty of 8s,9s and 10s and the kids who missed out on the original will think its tops. However, much like Fallout 3, I can't help but feel that it will lack that little something to make the game-world feel the way the original did.

No it will not live up to the hype. It is being developed with consoles in mind, so all of the depth and RPG elements of the original will be stripped out. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if they turn it into another generic shooter with a shitty cover system and auto aim.

Also, these overkill "Dream Rigs" help to alienate people from PC gaming. I (an admitted graphics whore) don't believe they can provide a substantially better experience than a 800$ machine. Well, except perhaps if you use a 3-screen setup. In which case you probably wouldn't care to blow few k$s on a single machine in the first place.

    "Kids + Free = Fun!" :o

I loved the first one, and hated Deus Ex 2, so I really hope this one does well. Can't wait for the review!

I really want this game to be a jump-start that the franchise, if you can even still call it that, needs to become relevant again. I'm not a big PC gamer but Deus Ex and System Shock 2 were the only games that ran on my old relic of a computer back then so I still have a special place in my heart for those games. It helps that they were also crazy awesome games as well ; ) Deus Ex is 10 bucks on Steam, so if you've never played it then I HIGHLY suggest getting an account and grabbing that game because it's to this day still incredibly deep. Plus a fan-mode was released a couple of years ago that updated the graphics so the NPC's no longer looked that they came out of the Dire Straits "Money for Nothing" video lol

I'm more interested in WHY THAT KOALA HAS A SAW! It's a baffling quandary.
  • CH3BURASHKA - June 3, 2010 1:16 a.m.

I'm currently playing the first (for the first time) and I can totally see what it was awesome. I love the design and feel of the trailer, and I hope they don't fuck it up. @TNag - Yeah, it's announced for the consoles, but come one, on what do you *really* wanna play it on?
  • LizarDAZZLE - June 3, 2010 1:09 a.m.

7,436 buckeroonies!? Can't wait for the review! PCGamer is the best thing ever behind TalkRadar (no offence)

@GamesRadarTylerNagata that is some kick-ass news. I've got high expectations/am looking forward to it!
  • Hobojedi - June 3, 2010 12:45 a.m.

God, I wish I still had my subscription PC Gamer.
  • Fiirestorm21 - June 3, 2010 12:30 a.m.

Am I the only one more interested in the Star Wars: The Old Republic preview in addition to why in fact the koala has a saw?
  • HumanMeatPuppet - June 3, 2010 12:21 a.m.

I think it will be good but might not get the attention it deserves. This is the first I am hearing of it. When does it come out?
  • WhiteCoco - June 2, 2010 11:52 p.m.

Will the new Deus Ex live up to the hype? Maybe, but you're building the hype by calling it "the greatest game of all time is back". I don't have high expectations even though I absolutely loved the first one (second was loads of meh).
  • GamesRadarTylerNagata - June 2, 2010 11:25 p.m.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution has also been announced for the PS3 and Xbox 360. :D
  • killerrpgfan - June 2, 2010 11:19 p.m.
