Tropical Malady review

Thai director Apichatpong Weerasethakul's leisurely "memoir of love and pain" is a film in two distinctive parts. The first explores the chaste romance between Keng (Banlop Lomnoi), a soldier, and Tong (Sakda Kaewbuadee), an illiterate country boy; while the second embraces ghost movie territory, with Keng now pursuing a shape-shifting shamanic figure through a forest. A deeply mysterious and seductively shot work, Tropical Malady asks the viewer to tease out connections and echoes between its atmospheric stories of desire.
