When fan-favorite fighters like Rolento and Poison were announced for Capcom’s Street Fighter X Tekken, it seemed like the sky was the limit on who would appear in the 43-character roster next. Now that we’ve seen the complete list of fighters, as well as the upcoming DLC pugilists, the cards are all on the table — we can stop holding our breath for the announcement of our favorite neglected world warriors.

But what about the characters who didn’t make the cut? Here are 20 fighters, ten each from the Street Fighter and Tekken franchises, who were forced to sit on the bench during Capcom’s latest crossover. Maybe they got snubbed at the last second. Maybe they were just a little too weird or obscure to warrant inclusion. Whatever the reason, we want to shine the spotlight on these lovable misfits—with any luck, they’ll earn a spot on the team in the next versus fighter.

A staple of the underplayed Street Fighter EX series, Skullomania’s origins are steeped in mystery. Is he a Japanese everyman who left a job in sales to become a masked vigilante? Is he a defector from an army serving under his evil brother, Shadowgeist?

Whatever his motivations, this skeletal-suited superhero is long overdue for a modern-day makeover. With his wacky moveset that emphasizes forward mobility and some truly strange grappling techniques, he could teach El Fuerte and King a thing or two about masked wrestling.

Steve Fox already has the boxing angle covered for the Tekken side of things, but this genetically-engineered kangaroo could go toe-to-toe with him in the ring. First emerging for the second King of Iron Fist Tournament in Tekken 2, he escaped the Zaibatsu's immoral laboratories with his raptor compadre Alex (who can be seen spectating matches in SFxT's Dino Crisis stage). He was replaced by his son Roger Jr. for Tekken 5 and onward, once it was discovered that he's a bit of a deadbeat dad who just wants to watch TV all day.

Geki was rocking the triple-bladed Wolverine claw long before Vega, yet still he gets no respect. First appearing in the original Street Fighter, the nondescript ninja even chucks shuriken during a match, completing the “Ryu Hayabusa ripoff” effect. Once Ryu’s beaten him into submission, he offers some sagely advice (via horribly muddled voice samples): “What strength! But don’t forget there are many guys like you all over the world.” Uhh…really? Because we haven’t seen too many dudes chucking fireballs around our neighborhood. Maybe that kind of logic is why Geki hasn’t shown his face in a Street Fighter since.

Nina Williams' younger sister has been a mainstay of the Tekken franchise after making her debut in the first Tekken game. Like her seductive sibling, Anna's a master assassin who uses Aikido to eliminate her mark. Anna blames Nina for their father's death, and acted as an antagonist in the spin-off beat-'em-up Death by Degrees on PS2. Street Fighter X Tekken's producer Yoshinori Ono expressed his interest to include Anna in the game, but she was cut at the last moment to avoid redundancy. We can only hope that the Irish femme fatale finds her way into Tekken X Street Fighter.

Another veteran of the first Street Fighter, Birdie somehow managed to change his race between games. Hailing from the UK, Birdie’s a black British punk rocker who came into his own during the Street Fighter Alpha series, and uses a switchblade and a chain to vicious effect while he headbutts and choke-slams his opponents. He also wins the award for “Most Difficult to Maintain” hairstyle - shaving a perfect circle in the middle of your gigantic blonde mohawk can’t be easy, and keeping it straight during a fistfight’s got to be even tougher.

How he didn't make it into Street Fighter X Tekken’s original roster, we'll never know. Alongside Marshall Law, Eddy is one of the most beginner-friendly Tekken characters - since he hit the scene in Tekken 3, button-mashers around the world have marveled at Eddy's flashy, easy-input combos. This Brazilian fights with the Capoeira style, which blends rhythm and dance with punches and kicks. He learned the unorthodox martial art while in prison, after he unjustly took the fall for his father's murder. At least we're guaranteed to see Eddy’s protégé, Christie, as DLC later down the line.

Poor Necro. In Street Fighter III: New Generation, this Russian drifter was tricked into becoming a guinea pig for genetic experimentation, turning him into an unsightly mutant who’s forced to fight while on the run. He feels like a cross between Dhalsim and Blanka, using his rubbery limbs to smack fools from across the screen, then charging his chest with electricity if they get too close. It’s high time Capcom showed him some love — though it is a tad creepy that his teenage traveling companion Effie may or may not be his girlfriend.

Ling Xiaoyu made it into SFxT, so where the heck is her loyal, bamboo-chewing bodyguard? After appearing side-by-side with Xiaoyu in Tekken 3, Panda (yes, that's her name) proved that even endangered species could compete in the King of Iron Fist Tournament. Originally introduced as an alternate skin for Heihachi's pet bear Kuma, her moves mimic his grizzly style. Including her in the game would've also given Kuma the chance to express his love for her, though we shudder to think what that team ending would've been like.

Say what you will about his glum demeanor, but Kairi’s a Shotokan-style fighter who possesses power that rivals Akuma’s. First appearing in Street Fighter EX, Kairi suffers from amnesia following a fight to the death against his father. After giving in to the same Dark Hadou energy which courses through Akuma, his hair turned white and his body got covered in battle scars. With all the teleporting characters in Street Fighter X Tekken - Raven, Bison, Akuma, and Dhalsim, to name a few - we bet Kairi would feel right at home.

Zafina debuted quite recently, entering the fray for Tekken 6. As one of the few Middle Eastern pugilists in all of fighting-game-dom, she uses a serpent-and-insect-like style to strike quickly at her foes. Since birth, she's been tasked with defending an ancient temple, and practices astrology in her spare time. Were Jin and Kazuya to come in contact with one another, prophecies predict that the temple Zafina defends would crumble; her mission is to stop that from every happening. With her unorthodox martial arts and seductive nature, Zafina could easily give Juri a run for her money.

This zany pro wrestler has only appeared in Street Fighter Alpha 3, but she gets a nod in SFxT via Kuma's alternate costume. With her ridiculously impractical attire and a grappling style fashioned after Zangief's piledrivers, R. Mika deserves life in 3D for the next crossover. Like Hugo, she utilizes her butt as a weapon, flinging herself into the opponent backside first for maximum damage. It's all for her fans, and the Japanese wrestler's moxie comes through in her win quotes: "Don't underestimate me! I believe in my dreams!"

It’s not often that you’ll think “badass” when you see a guy wearing a skintight fishnet tank top under a purple leather jacket. Especially when that jacket has a unicorn emblazoned on the back. Regardless, Lee’s been around since the original Tekken, serving as a light-side counterpart to Kazuya. After Heihachi adopted Lee and put him in charge of select branches of the seedy Zaibatsu corporation, Lee decided that the criminal underworld wasn't for him, plotting to overthrow Heihachi instead. Way to go, Lee. You da man.

Despite only appearing in Street Fighter Alpha 3, Karin’s a fan favorite who never misses the chance to demean her assailants. Born into the rich Kanzuki family, Karin fancies herself to be Sakura’s rival after Sakura trounced her in a scuffle. Like Dudley, she’s always accompanied by her loyal butler; unlike Dudley, she rarely treats her butler with much respect. She’d be the perfect foil to Lili: two prissy princesses with a thing for miniskirts and snobby remarks. They might have to tone down her crazy kick loops in the corner, though.

Tekken 3’s Gon marked the rare appearance of a pre-existing, licensed character in a Tekken game. His origins lie in a decade-long manga by the same name, and this adorable little dinosaur’s stories involve no dialogue whatsoever. Though he’s made an appearance in a Super Nintendo game by the same name, everyone in America thought he was just a cute T-Rex who attacked with fire breath and poison farts. Also, fun fact: Ogre’s fire attacks can barely scratch Gon. Now that would be one heck of a SFxT counterpick.

Rolento isn’t the only baddie who’d bring explosives to a street fight - meet Street Fighter EX’s resident maniac. This crazy-eyed serial killer was once squadmates with Guile, but went insane after escaping a bloody battle as the lone survivor. Now Dark hunts Guile in misguided revenge, killing any who stand in his way. He’s often likened to Scorpion of Mortal Kombat fame, thanks to his ability to ensnare enemies with a garrote wire. He’s the kind of villain who’ll literally slit his opponent’s throat during a fight - that’s the kind of scary that recent Street Fighter villains have been lacking.

Leo is the opposite of Guilty Gear's Bridget: a lady who looks like a Final Fantasy dude. Like Zafina, the boyish German brawler is a series newcomer who was introduced in Tekken 6. After the tragic death of her mother and the disappearance of her father, Leo swore revenge on that jerkface Kazuya when she learned that he had orchestrated her mother’s death. She could definitely give pretty-boy Vega some pointers on how to best create gender confusion—fans were stumped by her sex until Namco Bandai gave the official verdict of “female.”

Q is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma. A lumbering mute, he’s only been sighted in Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, concealing his identity with a metal mask in the form of a blank stare. It’s uncertain if he’s a human, robot, or otherworldly monster, but once thing’s for sure: if he’s in town, that’s bad news. With sightings at multiple disasters and crime scenes across the globe, Q is an unknowable fugitive who’s been targeted by the CIA for crimes he may or may not have committed. This is one character whose cryptic motivations beg to be expanded in a new game.

What we wouldn’t give to see Dragunov and M. Bison duking it out. As a member of Spetsnaz, the Russian Special Forces, Dragunov’s gained quite the frightening reputation—which one might surmise from his nickname “The White Angel of Death.” This ruthless and efficient fighter lets his fists do all his talking, slamming enemies to the ground with skull-shattering punches. Raven is the only force of good standing between Dragunov and his military assassinations. Shadaloo should look into hiring the cold-blooded killer ASAP.

When it comes to Capcom games, Maki’s been around the digital block. First appearing in Final Fight 2 as an analogue for the absent Guy, Maki resurfaced in Capcom vs SNK 2 before finally landing a gig in the Street Fighter lineage, with a slot in the Street Fighter Alpha 3 ports for the Game Boy Advance and PSP. Like Guy, she's another disciple of the Bushin-ryu style, using her tonfa to lay the smackdown on Mad Gear goons and rivals alike. Maki and Ibuki would get along like ninja peas in a pod.

Ganryu would be the perfect sumo wrestler to butt heads with E. Honda, but as luck would have it, neither of the heavy-set contenders made it into Street Fighter X Tekken. Since he first laid eyes on her in the first Tekken, Ganryu’s been smitten by Julia’s mother, Michelle Chang. Once Michelle rebuffed his affections, Ganryu set his sights on Julia in Tekken 5 - which is extremely creepy, considering he was 55 and she was 20. You know, on second thought? Maybe it’s best that he not be in a game that allows pairing up with Julia.
