Clooney and Blanchett in talks for The Fantastic Mr Fox

The greatest modern actor TM is set to star with the greatest modern actress TM for the greatest modern director’s (bored doing that now) adaptation of a book by the greatest modern children’s writer (enough already) , which is probably cause to get excited, we reckon.

Yes, George Clooney and Cate Blanchett are in final negotiations to star in Wes Anderson’s stop-motion adaptation of Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr Fox, the brilliant tale of one fox’s attempts to outwit three dimwitted farmers to save his family from the chop.

George will be chuckling into a microphone to voice Mr Fox, while Cate will be brightening up a recording booth to provide vocals for Fox’s wife.

Both stars appeared together in The Good German, of course, but we think more people will probably want to go and see Fox.

But they’ll have a bit of a wait. Wes has to finish editing his latest quirk-fest The Darjeeling Ltd, starring Natalie Portman, Jason Schwartzman and other people without ‘man’ in their names, before he gets started on his animated opus.

The Fantastic Mr Fox will be made in London, like all the best films.
