The teaser trailer for Brett Ratner’s mutant sequel goes online…
It’s the moment X-Men fans have been waiting for: can Brett Ratner’s entry in the successful franchise keep the flame alive? Or will the first Bryan Singer-less sequel pour cold water on the fan ardour?
Now at least we get a look at some actual footage, albeit in piecemeal, trailer form. If the teaser is anything to go buy, things are distinctly more hopeful. This is a blast of action and character moments, all underscored by Patrick Stewart’s gravelling narration. And, despite months of closed sets and leak-proofing procedures, it’s nice to see the studio have the faith to unveil the new characters- such as Kelsey Grammar as Beast, Ben Foster as Angel and Vinnie Jones as Juggernaut. Even if most of them are blink-and-you’ll-miss-‘em appearances. Still, freeze-framing was what ‘net trailers were invented for. That, and sparking Internet debates.
Also sure to get the forums buzzing is the brief scene set at a memorial. Who dies? Who knows, but at least it’s good to see that the Dark Phoenix - that’s the next step of thought-deceased X-woman Jean Grey (Famke Janssen)’s mutation- saga is being explored, along with plot about a cure being discovered for mutants. Our hopes for the X-sequel just took a leap up…
