Monster Hunter Portable 3rd and Scribblenauts are the newly crowned kings of eastern gaming at this year’s Tokyo Games Show after receiving top honors from the Japan Game Awards. Show organizer CESA (Computer Entertainment Suppliers Association) announced its top picks for 2011 during the big show in Tokyo, naming Capcom's PSP RPG as the Game of the Year and 5th Cell's DS puzzler as the Game Designers Award recipient.
The mobile Monster Hunter sequel was selected by CESA judges following input from a public vote earlier this year. Scribblenauts was picked by an panel of twelve all-star Japanese game designers including Masahiro Sakurai (Super Smash Bros., Kirby), Shinji Mikami (Resident Evil, Vanquish), Hideki Kamiya (Okami, Bayonetta), and Jin Fujisawa (Dragon Quest VIII and IX). It is the second game to win the Game Designer Award, which debuted last year and was given to Quantic Dream's QTE-fest Heavy Rain.

Both Monster Hunter Portable 3rd and Scribblenauts join an elite list of Japan Game Award honorees. Since launching in 1996, the annual awards have recognized gaming legends such as Final Fantasy VII, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Wii Sports, and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.
