Syndicate reboot confirmed for February 2012

After announcing earlier this month that the cult-classic cyberpunk game Syndicate is getting a reboot, EA has revealed that it may be coming sooner than expected at a recent media event in Las Vegas. Syndicate (2012) is only five months away and will be released February 21, 2012 in North America and February 24, 2012 in Europe.

While we're still a bit baffled by how this modern FPS is going to relate to the real-time tactical strategy game we knew and loved in 1993, we're also thrilled to be getting our hands on it so soon.

Syndicate takes place in the not-so-distant future of 2069. It's a time when corporations (known as syndicates) have replaced the government. Your job is to make sure the syndicate you work for is the most powerful by whatever means necessary. In the original game you controlled a squad of four genetically enhanced mercenaries on a series of infiltration, assassination, and covert missions. Obviously, as a first-person game, you'll be primarily controlling only one soldier, but there will be a co-op mode that includes revamped missions from the first Syndicate.

It's still unclear if the February release date is for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 versions of the game, or if some of the systems will have to wait a bit longer. But EA will have to start sharing more information soon — there's not much time left before it comes out.
